A major search effort is underway for three tourists missing since 14 January in the southern province of Antalya on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, security officials said.
The British David Mackie, 21, and two Dutch nationals Frisko De Vries, 21, and Merije De Groot, 21, were last seen in Turkey’s touristic long-distance footpath ‘The Lycian Way,’ which is approximately 540 km long and stretches from some Aegean Sea coast to Mediterranean region.
The three missing foreigners came to Turkey as exchange students and are enrolled in Istanbul’s Bogazici University lectures and courses.
Search and rescue operations are conducted by the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, in coordination with some non-governmental organizations.
The rescue teams are searching land and coastal areas around the Lycian Way.
