Srinagar - Xinhua

Hundreds of Muslim students in Indian-controlled Kashmir Saturday staged demonstrations to protest the controversial anti-Islam movie. In Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir, students marched through the streets, chanting anti-US and anti-Israel slogans and waving placards and banners to denounce the film. "We are protesting the sacrilege shown by the filmmaker in portrayal of our beloved prophet," said Mohammed Mohsen, a college student. The students dispersed peacefully after the protests. A police official said dozens of students staged the protests against the controversial film peacefully in Srinagar. The trailers of the film mocking Prophet Mohammed available on video sharing website YouTube sparked violent protests and evoked condemnations. The film titled "Innocence of Muslims" made by an American Jewish has portrayed Prophet of Islam - Mohammad in insulting terms. The content of this controversial film is no longer available on YouTube for the Internet users in the region. The content was blocked at the request of the region's government on the grounds that it has potential to trigger violent protests. Meanwhile, reports pouring in from Baramulla town, 55 km northwest of Srinagar said college and university students stage demonstrations against the blasphemous movie. Eyewitness said police fired tear gas to disperse the students. In 2010, at least 14 people including a policeman were killed during protests against the burning of Islamic holy book-The Quran by an American pastor. However, the repeated calls from religious and separatist leaders for peaceful protests this time are showing desired results. Massive protests have rocked the Middle East. In Libya four Americans including U.S. ambassador Christopher Stevens were killed on Tuesday when a mob attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi during such protests.
