New Delhi - Arab Today

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today stated that admissions to World Class Skill Centre (WCSC) in the capital city would commence from next month. The Centre would start functioning from its camp site at ITI Vivek Vihar wherein total 320 students in two streams, namely Hospitality Operations and Retail merchandizing would be offered admission. It may be recalled that the city government, in order to address the shortage of skilled manpower, decided to commission an ambitious green field project to develop a WCSC at Jaunapur with collaboration of Singapore government. The institute ultimately would provide skill development training to 10,000 students per year. Sheila Dikshit expressed confidence that the Institute would prove to be a centre of excellence in the field of skill development and would enhance employability of youth. She expressed these views in a function organized at Dwarka to inaugurate two new buildings of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sector 5 and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sector-12. Dikshit, who, along with Minister of State for Human Resource and Development (HRD) and Co-chairperson Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangthan Jitin Prasad inaugurated the buildings, stated that it is a matter of great satisfaction that the two new buildings are being commissioned in the Golden Jubilee of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. "School education in Delhi is considered the best in the country. The CBSE results of class-10th and 12th of Delhi Government schools have shown extraordinary improvement and are touching 99 percent and 89 percent respectively," she said. Dikshit stated that Dwarka is bound to become a hub of higher education as it is already housing Guru Gobind Singh I.P. University, National School of Law University, a campus of Ambedkar University and Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology. She also stated that the students had been always been remembering their teachers as they hold them in high esteem. The Chief Minister expressed the hope that the new buildings would help in developing an atmosphere conducive to learning. Jitin Prasad said that the Union HRD Ministry has been trying to ensure quality education to the students across the city and introduce vocational education in order to ensure skill development. The skill development facilitates employability of the students. He expressed happiness over the inauguration of two Kendriya Vidyalaya buildings and stated that 60 Kendriya Vidyalayas are functioning in the capital city. The Golden Jubilee of the Kendriya Vidyalayas provides an opportunity for introspection. Congress MP Mahabal Mishra, who was also present on the occasion along with local MLA Somesh Shokeen, raised a demand for setting up of a Central University in Dwarka and reservation of 10 percent seats for local residents in Kendriya Vidyalayas.
