Beirut - Arabstoday

A coalition of teachers supported by the March 14 coalition, the Amal Movement and the Progressive Socialist Party won elections in the League of Elementary and Middle School teachers in public schools in Lebanon. All the teachers on the 17-member list were successfulin gaining seats, while a member of the rival list, comprised of Hezbollah, the Free Patriotic Movement and the Lebanese Communist Party won the 18th seat. The Syrian Social Nationalist Party withdrew from the contest. The 18 members of the teaching league, which will represent around 28,000 elementary and middle school teachers across Lebanon, will later elect the head of the committee. Governorates in the north, Beirut, south, Bekaa and Mount Lebanon will each elect two members that will represent them nationally. Beirut - The Daily star
