Kuwait - KUNA

Kuwaiti voters in the five constituencies are interested in key issues such as development, economy, health, housing, traffic, sports and the environment. Education should be given a top priority since it is the key to solving all issues and problems facing the country and to achieving development and progress, a number of voters told KUNA separately. They hoped that the next parliament would adopt laws aiming to improve the quality of public services, primarily education and health, and to maintain and consolidate national unity. They also called for linking educational output to the needs of the labor market and for introducing an integrated educational system that would improve the level of students. National unity should be given a top priority on the basis that it is a pathway to development and progress, voters said, urging the coming parliament to maintain social unity. On health, they complained that medical services are seriously falling in spite of material potential, medical efficiency and sophisticated equipment. They called on the next parliament to adopt a set of pieces of legislation and laws aiming to overhaul the medical sector in the country. More hospitals and clinics are required to be established and new efficient and highly skilled medics to be recruited, they emphasized. Regarding housing care, other voters hoped that the next parliament would work hard to find a drastic solution to the problems of housing care in Kuwait. On the environment, they called for its protection and fighting harmful and poisonous waste in the country. Other key problems like youth unemployment, issues affecting the disabled, traffic, electricity and water also deserve to be given much heed over the coming period, they believed. Furthermore, parliament representatives will have to underline the necessity of achieving social justice and creating new jobs for young graduates. They voiced hope that an antitrust law would be adopted in the forthcoming legislative term in order to cut prices and pave the way for small enterprises to import goods in full freedom. Finally, they emphasized that the coming parliament should seek to create a fresh approach that could ensure permanent cooperation between the legislature and government.
