Pasadena - UPI

The FBI has been asked to investigate the death of an unarmed Southern California college student shot by police after a 911 caller said he had a gun. Pasadena Police Chief Phillip Sanchez said Thursday the FBI would give the death of Kendree McDade "another level of independent review," the Los Angeles Times reported. The shooting is already being investigated by the police department and two county agencies, the prosecutor's office and the office of independent review. Officers Jeff Newlen and Mathew Griffin responded March 24 to a 911 call from Oscar Carillo, who said his car was being burglarized by thieves who were armed. McDade had his hand at his waistband when he was shot on a darkened street but turned out to be unarmed, police said. Carillo later said he had lied about the gun, police said. Carillo was scared when he made the call, his attorney said
