Amman - KUNA

Kuwait's Cultural Office in Jordan announced, on Monday, it will increase students' allowance and the number of accredited universities. The Cultural Attach{ Dr. Mohammad Duhaim Al-Dhufairi told KUNA the office demanded the Ministry of Higher Education increase the allowance, after communicating with Kuwaiti students in Jordan. The students, especially those in the medical field, complained that their financial needs outweigh the allowance they receive. Al-Dhufairi said the ministry decided to closely assess the financial conditions of the students, including the level of inflation, the overall economic state in Jordan, and the increase in prices. The study required a group of students to fill a form detailing their monthly spending on essential everyday needs, also including their academic spending. The study confirmed the complaint that the allowance students receive does not cover their needs due to the increase in prices of transportation, food, rent, and clothing. He noted that the office aims to give students the best service and help they need to enroll in new majors and universities, by cooperating with those in charge in both Kuwait and Jordan, especially the Ministry of Higher Education and the Kuwait National Authority for Academic Accreditation. The ministry is working on giving the increasing numbers of students many major and university options, so they don't all go into specific universities, the Cultural Attach{ said, adding that this procedure aims to provide the job market with qualified employees in the needed specialties to help in development plans in the future. He said all recent procedures taken by the office, the ministry, and the Jordanian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, made certificate accreditation procedures easier for Kuwaiti students in Jordan. Currently, there are 4,321 Kuwaiti students in Jordan, with 755 of them registered in public universities, while 2,566 students are in private universities.
