Victoria - UPI

Two Bard College students were killed in a hit-and-run accident in the Village of Tivoli, N.Y., near the campus, police said. The college community held a midnight service service Saturday in honor of Evelina Brown, 20, of Seattle, and Sarah McCausland, 19, of Winnetka, Ill., who died Friday night, the Poughkeepsie (N.Y.) Journal reported. The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office said the two women were walking northbound on 9G when they were struck by a vehicle traveling southbound. Police arrested 63-year-old Carol Boeck, the driver of the vehicle, and charged her with felony driving while intoxicated and first-degree vehicular manslaughter. She was was released on $50,000 cash bail and was scheduled to be back in court Monday. "This is an unfathomable tragedy, and our thoughts are with victims' families," said Leon Botstein, president of Bard College.
