A limited Prison Break revival is in development at Fox.
Network CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman confirmed the project at the TCA summer press tour Wednesday. The 10-episode series will take place several years after season 4, and ignore Michael's (Wentworth Miller) death in direct-to-video follow-up The Final Break.
"I would describe it as a bit of a sequel," Walden offered. "The brothers will be back. Some of the iconic characters from that show will be back. I don't think [creator] Paul [Scheuring] knows exactly where it's going ... but it will address some of the questions from the original show but also appeal to new audiences."
"I don't think he's going to completely ignore what happened in [The Final Break], but what he pitched to us was a very logical and believable explanation in the world of Prison Break for why are characters alive and still moving around in the world," he added.
Prison Break had a four-season run from 2005 to 2009, and released two final episodes as The Final Break following the series finale. The drama starred Miller as engineer Michael Scofield, with Dominic Purcell as the character's brother, Lincoln Burrows.
Miller has since portrayed Leonard Start, aka Captain Cold, on The CW series The Flash, and will continue to play the character on spinoff Legends of Tomorrow. Purcell portrays Mick Rory, aka Heatwave, on the show, and will also star on the new series.
