China's Internet users are to name ten individuals or groups to be 2014 grassroots heroes, or China's "Good Samaritans."
The vote started Wednesday and web users will have two weeks to choose from 60 potential candidates, information on the candidates is available on key portal websites, according to Xinhua News Agency, the event's architect and sponsor.
Candidates include an earthquake rescuer in Ludian, southwestern province of Yunnan, and a Chinese doctor who performed more than 200 operations within a month in Ebola-ravaged Africa.
Also among the potential winners is a music group comprising by 15 young disabled people.
The vote, held since 2010, is conducted quarterly to promote the good deeds of ordinary people and to improve moral awareness in society.
