Kuwait - KUNA

Four Kuwaiti and six Saudi Twitter accounts won the blogging and social media competition of the 13th edition of His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali's Informatics Award, said an official here, late Tuesday. Chairwoman of the Award's Board of Trustees Sheikha Aida Al-Ali Al-Sabah said that Kuwaiti Twitter accounts, managed by Dr. Jassem Al-Mutawa, Dr. Rashed Al-Sahel, Dr. Khaled Al-Tayeb, and Mubarak Al-Omair, won the competition for their social science, healthcare, and cultural input. Meanwhile, Saudi accounts managed by Dr. Ahmad Al-Adeeb, Dr. Khaled Al-Nmr, Dr. Tareq Al-Habib, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Ahmad, Abdulatif Al-Hajairi, and Dr. Mohammad Al-Muqbel also won for similar contributions, said Sheikha Aida. Sheikha Aida said that the competition, launched last March, attracted bloggers and social media users from all over the Arab world, noting that around USD 50,000 was allocated for the contest. On his part, member of the competition's steering committee Saleh Al-Asoussi said that the contest was aimed at solidifying the Arab language as one of the main forms of communication on Twitter and other platforms. He noted that the competition's steering committee consisted of well-respected Arab figures within domains of informatics and Arab language teaching and usage. The official thanked the committee for its efforts and hoped that the contest would continue in the future.
