Rumours about frozen cat meat being sold in the markets are untrue, officials said.
Muscat Municipality denied the rumour circulating about a picture they had originally tweeted, which showed a food inspection in Baushar.
Individuals circulated on social media that the picture showed frozen cat meat.
Municipality officials confirmed that it was in fact sheep meat, and that there is no truth to the rumours being shared.
The picture originally appeared in a tweet by Muscat Municipality, with the caption, "The Inspection and Food Control Department of Baushar carries out an inspection campaign on a number of meat and poultry shops in the province to ascertain whether health requirements have been enforced."
