The interactive website of the Emirates Identity Authority has attracted around 2 million visits during the first half of the year, which is similar to the figures for the same period last year. Additionally, the website of the Authority also saw around 5 million browsing movements during the first six months of the year.
The percentage of new visits to the site stood during the period at 35%, which would be around 700,000 new visits. In 2013, Emirates ID gave a comprehensive facelift to the website in accordance with the best international practices in terms of both content and appearance.
Abdullah Al Kendi, Director of IT at Emirates ID, said the massive visitor turn out at the website was reflective of its importance as a vital link between the Authority and its customers on the one hand and the popular acceptance of the online services the Authority provided to the public.
"The customers and their satisfaction figure on top of our priority list in everything we do. The huge number of visitors to the website also indicates the preeminent position the Emirates ID enjoys in smart government initiatives in the country and beyond," Al Kendi pointed out.
The website of the Emirates ID stands out in terms of the range of services it offers and the amount of knowledge and information it provides. It provides all relevant knowledge and information not only about the Emirates ID’s functions but also about identity management and smart governance across the globe. Likewise, it also provides a number of services for both individuals and organizations, including online ID card applications and application and delivery status enquiry about the cards.
The Emirates ID website has been designed in such as a way that it is accessible for the users of various smart phone platforms. It is the first government body in the UAE to employ the Responsive Design technique in website design. According to a report from the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority in 2013, the website has fulfilled 99.41% of all the requirements for a government website as per the standards of the guidelines issued for federal government bodies.
Emirates ID website won a number of prestigious awards, including the ‘Summit International Creative Award’ for the Best Government Website Excellence in Leadership and Development of Strategies for Digital Content and Cognitive Information. 1000 agencies from 9 countries across the globe had competed for the award.
