The St. Louis Cardinals flocked to Twitter after mechanical issues stranded their plane on the tarmac at Lambert Airport for several hours, team officials say. Manager Mike Matheny said the plane had been scheduled to fly to Boston at 2 p.m. EDT Tuesday for the sixth game of the World Series, KMOV-TV in St. Louis reported Wednesday. Aboard were the players, their families and the coaching staff. A replacement plane didn't take off until 9 p.m., leaving the players with little but social media to entertain themselves. "On the bright side really getting to know my teammates children," tweeted Matt Carpenter. David Freese tweeted "Pizza is on the way boys!!! #IMOS," a reference to the St. Louis-based pizza chain Imo's. Shortly before boarding the second plane, Joe Kelly tweeted "Sorry media and @Cardinals I finally won the standoff with @Delta." The plane arrived in Boston shortly after 11 p.m. EDT.
