London - Arabstoday

Calls to boycott the search engine Google and YouTube spread in the social networks after the Internet giant refused to remove the links leading to the blasphemous movie, which sparked protests across the world. The two-day campaign, launched on Monday, is seen as a step aiming at mounting pressure on Google to remove the video from YouTube. A number of Internet surfers have underlined that blocking the YouTube links in a number of Arab and Muslim countries is not a satisfactory response to the Muslims who demanded the company to remove it from the website. Some of them called on to boycott all the Google services online, as well as not to track the advertisements shown on the website. This will cause huge revenue loss to Google, they said, adding that they hoped that the share of Google would see a decline after this. “There are other unlimited alternatives such as Yahoo,” the protesters claimed. “Freedom has boundaries which cannot be crossed,” said Emirati Internet user Mariam Mohammed. “Insulting religions cannot be tolerated as Arabs have never before confronted any other religions. We, as Muslims, should boycott any entity that insults us as well as the bodies which publish that,” she added. “The Muslim population is more than 1.5 billion strong, which forms a power in the world. When the boycott takes place, Google will see how powerful Arabs and Muslims are,” Mariam said. Ahmed  Darwish, another Emirati, expressed shock over the rejection of a giant company like Google and YouTube to remove the Anti-Islam video clip. He said that freedom should not harm the religions or insult faith of the people. He said he will boycott all websites of Google, not only for two days. He added that he will use other search engines similar to Google. From : Khalij
