Participants in the reading group will look into a selection of texts that reflect on the meaning of violence, while also focusing on the context of Egypt and the Middle East which is seeing a rise in the frequency of violence depicted in different types of imagery, be them photographs, videos and the media in general.
“The reading groups aim at raising discussions and debates concerning the production, consumption and circulation of the image,” Contemporary Image Collective states in their press release.
Interested applicants may apply to the reading group by sending an email with their full name, email and phone number to: info@ciccairo.com
The email submission should include any type of image (photograph, video or screenshot) representing their idea of what violence means, with a brief description explaining their choice of the image.
The deadline for submissions is 18 March 2015.
Selected participants will be notified 26 March 2015.
