The United Arab Emirates Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT), a subsidiary of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), has participated in an event titled "An audience on Cyber Security with Bruce Schneier", BT's Chief Security Technology Officer. As cyberspace grows in size and complexity, so does the role of the world's security practitioners. The focus of the event was to discuss the latest cutting edge technology designed to mitigate the evolving cyber threat. Before completing his two day trip to the UAE, Schneier took time to visit the TRA Dubai office to meet with representatives of aeCERT and to be given a guided tour of its Threat Intelligence and Operations Center'. Commenting on the occasion, Eng. Meshal Bin Hussain, aeCERT Operations Manager at the TRA, said, "The ability to share knowledge, expertise and professional insight at the very highest level is fundamental for any ambitious government entity. aeCERT falls into this category as we consider bridging the gap between local and international security professionals to be an organization priority. Taking part in this event is proof of such, and we have no doubt that the experience gained from participating will help improve our operations here in the UAE." "Bruce Schneier is internationally recognized as an industry leader in every sense of the term. A security technologist and a published author, much of Mr. Schneier's work sets the agenda for online security procedures. His visit to our offices in Dubai is yet another example of both aeCERT and the TRA's efforts to form relationships with experts at the very highest level," he added. Eng.Majid Al Madhloum, Head of aeCERT Security Quality, attended the event and participated in an expert panel discussion which included Bruce Schneier. Mr. Al Madhloum's involvement centered around two key discussion subjects, "What do organizations in the Middle East need to do to enhance their information security programmes?" and "UAE's Government initiatives in enhancing the Information and Cyber Security posture of the country". Eng. Ahmad Al Ajail, Security Intelligence and Threat Analyst at aeCERT made a presentation on malware threats in the UAE, and the active role of aeCERT. Bruce Schneier is the author of a number of bestselling books, including Applied Cryptography' and Secrets and Lies' and has previously testified on security before the United States Congress.
