Kampala - Arabstoday

Wavah Broadcasting Service (WBS), Uganda's first local private television station, is to be carried on the Multichoice Africa sister platforms DStv and Gotv. "Viewers will appreciate the value it brings in terms of countrywide and regional reach in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Sudan. DStv has the expertise to take the signal to all parts of the country," said Gordon Wavamuno, chairman, WBS. "It is a historic partnership that we've worked on for a long time because we had to comprehend what it really meant and its benefits," he added. The channel joins other Ugandan TV stations NTV, UBC and Bukedde TV on the sub-Saharan wide DStv satellite television platform, reports East African Business Week. "The future of digital television in African lies in the adoption of the latest technology and so such partnerships will boost digital migration by the close of the year," said Steven Musoke, chairman, Multichoice Uganda. The nations of East Africa have opted to begin digital television transmission (DTT) by the end of 2012, ahead of the global analogue switch off date of 2015, decreed by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
