German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Digital has chosen US video technology company KIT digital to expand the reach of its TV Everywhere solution Sky Go to further platforms and devices. Sky Go makes it possible to watch the subscription broadcaster's content across multiple screens including the iPad, iPhone, Xbox 360 and the open internet. Through connected devices, Sky subscribers can view a large library of content including on-demand Hollywood movies, sports and live events. The KIT Cosmos platform powers Sky Go, making the service feasible and efficient through a single KIT digital content and asset management backend, according to the New York-based company. This second phase deployment of Sky Go was built using the multi-device capability of KIT Cosmos to enable extension of the service to more connected devices. From the launch of Sky Go in April 2011 through the end of last year, the service reached a subscriber base of 594,000 and achieved over 4 million unique viewer sessions in the fourth quarter of 2011 alone. The service which is offered in Germany and Austria also features social media integration, allowing users to recommend video content to their friends. "Consumers have tasted the freedom of video anytime, anywhere, and by using KIT digital's Cosmos platform, Sky is providing its customers with greater flexibility and convenience to watch live and on-demand TV, harnessing the growing trend towards TV Everywhere," said Oliver Botti, vice-president sales Europe at KIT digital. "We are pleased that our suite of technologies and services can meet the needs of future-looking broadcasters and services providers like Sky Deutschland." KIT digital serves nearly 2,500 clients in more than 50 countries including AT&T, BBC, BSkyB, Disney-ABC, Google, Mediaset, MTV, News Corp, Universal Studios and Vodafone.
