Kirkuk - AFP

AFP journalist Marwan Ibrahim was wounded in the head in a car bombing on Wednesday as he reported on bomb attacks in the northern Iraq city of Kirkuk. Ibrahim, a 34-year-old who has worked for AFP since 2003, went to northwest Kirkuk to report on a blast in the area about 6:20 am (0320 GMT). He then left for the site of another bombing, travelling in an SUV with his father-in-law, a police brigadier general so he could pass checkpoints more quickly. "A car bomb targeted us on our way to the site of a second explosion," Ibrahim said. "It was a big shock, and I heard a terrible sound." The vehicle's windows were blown out, and it caught on fire. Ibrahim's right ear, head, right shoulder and both knees were injured in the blast. His father-in-law and the driver of the vehicle were also wounded. Ibrahim was treated at a hospital in Kirkuk and is to travel to Jordan for further treatment.
