BMW has released images and specs of the new three-door version of the 1 Series. It's available to order now, although customer deliveries are due in September. The three-door model is the same size as the five-door, and has a 360-litre boot that extends to 1,200 litres with the rear seats folded flat. The three-door model is available with the same range of engines fitted to the five-door model, with the addition of an entry-level 1.6-litre 114i petrol, plus a top-spec 3.0-litre petrol, called the M135i. The M135i is capable of 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds and returns 35.3mpg. The 116d EfficientDynamics diesel is the most economical model, capable of returning 74.3mpg and emissions of 99g/km. All models are fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, with an optional eight-speed automatic also available. Five trims are offered, including ES, SE, Sport, Urban and M Sport. Entry-level ES models feature keyless start, 16-inch alloy wheels, ABS and stability control. SE models add a 6.5-inch control display with iDrive, a USB port, multi-function leather steering wheel and a speed limiter. Sport models add 17-inch alloy wheels, sports bumpers, sports seats and a sports steering wheel, while Urban models come with a different grille and include half-leather upholstery as standard. Finally, M Sport versions include aerodynamic sports bumpers, sports suspension, 18-inch M Star-spoke alloys and suede sports seats. Prices range from £17,300 to £29,995.
