Toyota Motor Corp and Nissan Motor Co will recall nearly 6.5 million units worldwide due to possible defective airbags, the firms said Wednesday.
The two carmakers said they were not aware of any injuries or deaths caused by the defect.
Toyota's recall includes 1.35 million vehicles in Japan, 1.26 million in Europe and 637,000 in the United States, the world's largest carmaker said.
Nissan will recall 563,000 vehicles in Europe, 326,000 in North America, 274,000 in China and 288,000 in Japan, it said.
More than 21 million vehicles have been recalled globally to repair Japan-based Takata Corp's defective airbags.
A malfunctioning inflator may have caused some airbags to rupture and spray metal fragments at drivers and passengers.
