Japanese automaker Toyota said it would recall 11,489 FJ Cruiser SUVs due to headlights that could temporarily blind oncoming drivers. The recall involves 2007-13 Cruisers with "Auxiliary Driving Lamp Kits," that have 55-watt bulbs in an assembly mounted on the front bumper. The bulbs, it could be said, work too well. Combined with the standard headlights, the bulbs exceed regulations for brightness, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. The recall is scheduled to begin late in the month. Dealers have been instructed to replace the 55-watt light bulbs with 35-watt bulbs. The recall is expected to begin in late May. Consumers can call 800-331-4331 for information.
