Fifth generation Opel Corsa with IntelliLink infotainment

Sporty, economical, exciting: Opel will celebrate no less than four world premieres at the Paris Motor Show from October 4 - 19. The new Corsa, the stylish and sporty ADAM S, the Mokka with a new 100 kW/136 hp 1.6 CDTI turbo diesel and the 2.0 CDTI engines in the Insignia and Zafira Tourer will all be presented to the masses for the first time. “The four world premieres represent the consistent continuation of our model and powertrain offensive,” said Dr Karl-Thomas Neumann, Opel Group CEO. “The new Corsa and ADAM S are attractive additions to our portfolio and our new high-tech engines are at the forefront of current diesel technology.”
New bestseller with ultra-modern assistance systems: The Opel Corsa
The new Corsa comes with a totally new interior that enhances the perception of high quality and spaciousness, including best-connected IntelliLink infotainment technology and ultra-modern driver assistance systems. The second-generation Opel Eye front camera, with Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, Following Distance Indication and Forward Collision Warning, further increases driving safety. The new, refined and efficient 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo engines, smooth-shifting transmissions, the new suspension and optimized steering deliver class-leading levels of comfort and precision. The compact, all-aluminum 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo of course already meets Euro 6 emission standards. It is available in two output configurations, giving 66 kW/90 hp or 85 kW/115 hp. Both pump out 170 Nm of torque from just 1,800 rpm. Designers have now combined the dynamic Corsa silhouette with flowing, sculptural lines and precise details which characterize Opel’s award-winning design philosophy. The new Corsa has been equipped with this package to continue the model’s 32-year spanning success story in the highly competitive small car segment. It will roll off the assembly lines in Eisenach and Zaragoza at the end of this year.
Trendy and seductively sporty: The Opel ADAM S
Slick design, a spirited powertrain and naturally numerous individualization possibilities characterize the latest ADAM, the racy ADAM S. Drivers who like a somewhat sportier drive can find a 110 kW/150 hp, 1.4-liter Turbo ECOTEC unit under the hood. Combined to a six-speed manual gearbox, the new turbocharged engine impresses with outstanding responsiveness and a torque plateau that suits a spirited style of driving, making curvy roads the ideal terrain for the little sports star. The ADAM S accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 8.5 seconds. Top speeds of well over 200 km/h are possible with the engine. The sporty driving characteristics are enhanced by the specially tuned performance chassis, developed especially for the ADAM S, and direct, sharp performance steering. But the pocket rocket can also handle itself in case of an emergency – large OPC S brakes, custom-made for the various wheel sizes, ensure excellent braking characteristics. The ADAM S’ sporting pedigree is plain to see – the designers have given it a slick styling both on the in and outside. Obviously, the ADAM S also offers Opel’s award-winning, sophisticated IntelliLink system that offers state-of-the-art connectivity and apps. This infotainment system is fully compatible with latest smartphones using both ANDROID and Apple iOS, enabling ADAM drivers to be fully connected with safe and easy-to-use technology. It will be available for order from November and will be at dealers from the beginning of 2015.
Class-leading running refinement: The Mokka 1.6 CDTI
From early 2015, the Opel Mokka will be available with Opel’s all-new 100 kW/136 hp 1.6 CDTI turbo diesel. Already dubbed the ‘whisper diesel’, the extremely compact four-cylinder unit will replace the current 1.7 liter diesel in the Mokka line-up. It gives more power and torque – up six hp and 20 Nm, respectively – from a smaller displacement, as well as significantly lower fuel consumption. The lively 1.6 CDTI is part of a new family of Opel all-aluminum diesel engines. The 100 kW/136 hp version reaches 85 hp per liter – unrivalled in its displacement class. Maximum speed is more than 190 km/h. The whisper diesel is also extremely economical and kinder to the environment: with Opel’s precise six-speed manual transmission and standard Start/Stop system, the 1.6 CDTI Mokka consumes just 4.1 l/100 km over the combined cycle while emitting only 109 g/km CO2. This is almost 0.5 l/100 km less fuel and 11 g/km less CO2 than the predecessor 1.7 liter version. This new diesel engine complies with the stringent Euro 6 emissions standard. Contributors to its strong and clean performance are among other the VTG turbocharger (variable turbine geometry) and high-pressure, common-rail fuel injection system. Thanks to state-of-the-art CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) simulations and scores of optimization loops engineers have improved noise generation, vibration and running refinement.
As much energy from as little fuel as possible: The new 2.0 CDTI in the Insignia and the Zafira Tourer
Available from 2015, Opel’s new-generation, 2.0-liter turbo diesel ticks every important box. Packing 125 kW/170 hp and substantial torque of 400 Nm, it will replace the current 120 kW/ 163 hp diesel in the Insignia and the 121 kW/165 hp engine in the Zafira Tourer, which have 380 Nm torque on tap. This highly efficient, Euro 6 compliant engine delivers almost four percent more horsepower and 14 percent more torque while reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Just as important, the engine is also impressively quiet and smooth as a result of Opel’s unwavering focus on ‘sound engineering’ measures to minimize NVH (noise, vibration, harshness). A new aluminum cylinder head design, including the addition of a decoupled, plastic cam cover with isolated fixings and a sealing gasket, improves noise attenuation. The new 2.0 CDTI runs as clean as a gasoline engine with Opel’s BlueInjection selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. BlueInjection is an after-treatment which removes nitrogen oxide (NOx) from the engine’s exhaust gases. Tiny quantities of AdBlue®, a harmless fluid consisting of urea and water, are injected into the exhaust gas flow ahead of the SCR catalyst and downstream of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The solution is immediately converted into ammonia (NH3), which is absorbed by the SCR catalyst. Nitrogen oxide (NOx) in the passing exhaust gas is then selectively reduced to harmless nitrogen and water vapor in a chemical reaction with the ammonia.
