The McLaren 650S, a sports car designed and manufactured by McLaren Automotive, has been honoured at this year’s inaugural Middle East Car of the Year Awards, being named ‘Best Supercar’.
The award marks the third successive year McLaren has claimed a ‘Best Supercar’ title, following the success of the 12C and 12C Spider in 2012 and 2013.
The Middle East Car of the Year Awards is set to become the most coveted award of the regional automotive industry. It integrates a complex yet transparent nomination and scoring methodology which is developed, tested and implemented by some of the most experienced ‘motoring minds’ of the industry.
Ian Gorsuch, regional director for Middle East and Africa, said: “To be awarded ‘Best Supercar’ in the Middle East for the third year in a row against such well-established and highly regarded competitors is an incredible achievement, and is true testament to the ground-breaking engineers and designers at the McLaren Technology Centre, our headquarters in the UK. This is a feat that has been achieved in only three years since we delivered our first car to a customer in the Middle East.”
“The McLaren 650S represents 50 years of road and racing car know-how. Everything we’ve learnt from the 12C and the McLaren P1 has gone into this car, creating a car with the widest breadth of capabilities of any production supercar. It’s also a new benchmark in pure driving excitement,” he added.
“We’re looking forward to our next year, and are extremely excited about the next car in the McLaren range, the eagerly anticipated Sports Series model, which will open McLaren up to a wider range of customers,” Gorsuch said.
Available in Coupé and Spider body styles from launch, the McLaren 650S joins the range as an additional model to the sold-out McLaren P1, and learns from 50 years of competing in the highest levels of motorsport as well as from the supercars for the road the company has launched in recent years.
The 650S is the fastest, most engaging, best equipped and most beautiful series-production supercar yet from McLaren Automotive and is hand-built alongside the company’s other supercars at the McLaren Production Centre in the UK.
Following the launch of the first McLaren Automotive retailer in the Middle East three years ago, the region has already established a loyal customer base and following of fans. Since 2011, McLaren Automotive has opened eight retailers throughout the Middle East and Africa region, located in Manama, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubai, Jeddah, Johannesburg, Riyadh and Kuwait.
