Washington - Upi

General Motors Co. announced a recall of 3,150 Chevrolet Captiva vehicles due a potential problem with leaking power steering fluid, U.S. regulators said. The recall involves vehicles made between Oct. 2, 2009, and April 21, 2011, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a statement. The NHTSA said the problem is that with the transmission in first gear, the power steering pump can operate at a higher speed, which can heat up and melt the power steering fluid reservoir. The leaking power steering fluid can then catch fire on a hot engine, the regulator said. GM said it would replace the power steering fluid cooler free of charge in vehicles under recall. The firm is sending letters to vehicle owners to alert them of the recall and would schedule repairs as parts become available. Consumers can call 1-888-327-4236 for information.
