Al Ain - Arabstoday

Temperature has shot up to 45 degree Celsius in the internal areas of the UAE;  heat and humidity dominate coastal areas with no respite in sight. Forecasters said the last couple of days were the hottest days so far and human comfort index has dropped down to poor level. "It is really hot out in the open during daytime and people must be careful," said a meteorologist. Prolonged exposure to hot and humid conditions above 40 degrees Celsius is considered harmful. Working, playing, jogging, and staying in such conditions for long could dehydrate a person, he warns. May is comparatively a dry and hot month. Mercury can go as high as 48 degree later this month, the meteorologist said. Some parts of the country like Swiehan, Al Khazna, Al Wathbah, Al Faqqa, Al Ain, Seih Al Salem, Umm Al Zimul, have already started smouldering under the hot sunlight. These towns start wearing deserted looks at around 1pm for the last couple of days when residents cut their outdoor activities and go indoors. The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said weather will continue to be fair in general with hot and hazy conditions during the daytime. Similar conditions are likely to continue for the next two to three days at least across the country. Winds will be light to moderately rough in general, but could become stronger at times. This could lead to blowing sand and dust in the western and internal areas. Sea is likely to be moderately rough in the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. The NCMS expects daytime temperatures going up to 41 degree Celsius in the coastal areas and dropping down to 22C at night. Similarly, the night time low temperatures could shoot up to 45 degree Celsius in the internal areas. Conditions will not be much different in the mountainous areas.
