Parts of Sharjah received 0.4mm of rainfall early on Sunday morning, the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) reported. The showers, however, did not help lower the rising temperatures as the emirate recorded a maximum of 32°C on Sunday, Met office sources in Sharjah added. NCMS reported that Monday would be partly cloudy, especially over the coastal and the northern areas, with a chance of rain. Moderate winds, freshening at times, are expected to cause dust and sand to blow over the interior and exposed areas, and reduce horizontal visibility. Sea will be rough to moderate in general. In what was reported by weathermen to be the first instance this year of the UAE experiencing showers, albeit very light, other regions also received rainfall ranging from 0.2-1.2mm. Dubai only received traces of rain, Met sources added. Dust winds The general weather on Sunday was partly cloudy, especially over the coastal and northern parts, as also the islands, with moderate winds kicking up dust. The sea was moderate, though turning rough at times. Sir Bani Yas Island, off Abu Dhabi, received 1.4mm of rain, the highest recorded for the day. Abu Al Bukhooshi, having received 1.2mm rain, followed Sir Bani Yas, while Yasat and Jabal Jais received 0.6 and 0.4mm respectively. Other regions such as Al Malaiha, Das, Dhudna and Ras Musherib received 0.2mm of rain at around 3am on Sunday. Meanwhile, according to the weathermen’s prediction for Tuesday, the weather condition is expected to be hazy over some areas and partly cloudy to cloudy at times in the north. Temperatures may rise during daytime over the interior and the western areas. Moderate winds in general will cause blowing dust/sand over the interior and exposed areas. Temperatures had started climbing since last week in the region with the weather taking another turn. It is expected to further increase in the coming days and allow the dust particles suspended in the air to settle very slowly, Met sources in Sharjah said, adding that Sunday’s light rains were not able to fully bring the suspended dust to the ground.
