Islamabad - Arab Today

Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Manthei, Chairman of the State Council, and his accompanying delegation called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad.

Sharif said that Pakistan is grateful to Oman for its support in connection with Pakistan-GCC Free Trade Agreement.

He stated that Pakistan would welcome their Omani brothers to invest in Pakistan, particularly in energy-related projects, infrastructure development and the consumer-based industry, as the current investment policy of Pakistan has created an investment-friendly environment by all sectors for FDI, guaranteeing equal treatment of foreign and domestic investments, and protecting foreign investment with a high rate of dividends.

While commenting on the people-to-people contact, the PM said Oman has a sizeable Pakistani diaspora working in various sectors and Pakistan can further provide both unskilled and highly professional manpower in various fields such as medicine, engineering, information technology, accountancy, education and technical work.

He further said that both countries can benefit immensely through mutual exchange of experts in the field of Education, Science and Technology.

The Omani delegation comprised Sheikh Hamed Mohammed Abdallah Bahwan Al Mukhaini, member of the Education and Research Committee, Mohamed Ahmed Ali Al Rawas, member of the Culture Media and Tourism Committee, Dr. Ahmed Sulaiman Saleh Al Maimani, member of the Economic Committee, Wafa Salim Ali Al Harrasi, deputy chairman of the Social Committee, and Dr. Aisha Ahmed Yousuf Al Washahi, member of the Social Committee. Mian Raza Rabbani, chairman Senate of Pakistan, senator Taj Haider and other senior officials were also present in the meeting.

Earlier, the prime minister warmly welcomed the delegation and stated that Pakistan and Oman are natural allies due to their geographical proximity and leadership. The government and the people of Pakistan hold His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said and the people of Oman in high esteem.

He conveyed the prayers and wishes from the people and the government to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos and the people of Oman.

Muscat: Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council, returned from Pakistan yesterday.

He met Pakistani president Mamnoon Hussain; Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif; and Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs.

During the visit, Al Mantheri also held talks with Mian Raza Rabbani chairman of the Senate of Pakistan. On his return, Al Mantheri was received by the vice chairmans of the State Council and the ambassador of Pakistan.

Welcomes ferry service idea

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif welcomed the idea of proposed ferry service between Karachi, Gwadar and Muscat during his meeting with Oman’s Parliamentary delegation, led by Oman’s State Council Chairman.

This initiative would start a new chapter of friendship between both the countries and the service will provide an affordable alternative source of movement for a large number of people who move on these routes on a regular basis, he added.

“Oman and Pakistan are natural allies and the start of a ferry service will herald a new chapter of friendship between the two brotherly countries,” the PM added.
