Saboteurs damaged a 500 kV electricity tower in a Fayyoum village late on Tuesday, the Egyptian Electricity Transfer Company said.
Unidentified men destroyed the bases of the tower in Adwa village by explosives, forcing its collapse, the company said.
Repairs will cost 1.8 million pounds and will take one week, it added.
Power loads will be commuted in all Upper Egypt till repairs are over.
The company urged citizens to rationalize the consumption of electricity within coming few days till the repair process is completed and to report any dubious objects.
