Egyptian Electricity Ministry
Moscow - MENA

Egyptian Electricity Ministry undersecretary Hassan Hassanein said the nuclear reactor of Dabaa, which Egypt plans to build with Russia, aims to diversify energy sources in Egypt.

Addressing the 8th international forum “2016 Atomexpo” in Moscow, Hassanein said Egypt’s geographic location between Africa and Asia increases the importance of the reactor, noting that several countries in the region are planning to build nuclear reactors such as Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, contributing to economic development in the region.

Egypt sought to build peaceful nuclear reactors a long time ago but its conditions were not suitable until it signed a deal with Russia in November, he said.
