The cabinet under prime minister Sherif Ismail gave on Tuesday the green light to contract with four international companies to expand eight power plants.

In a statement, the cabinet said this move comes as part of the Electricity Ministry's plan to provide Egypt's needs of electricity ahead of the summer season.

The statement said the decision is part of the Ministry'e efforts to meet the needs of citizens of electricity in the 2016 summer and also to supply power to the economic and service projects.
