Muscat - Arabstoday

The fears of another tropical cyclone have gripped Oman since Monday but the forecasters in Oman have ruled out any tropical system in the Arabian Sea until now. The Department of Forecasting and Observing Practices at the Directorate General of Meteorology and Air Navigation (DGMAN) has said in its forecast that there is no Tropical system in the Arabian Sea until now. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), which had forecast tropical cyclone in the Arabian Sea, has already withdrawn the warning. However, IMD has forecast that the deep depression would move towards Oman coast before dissipating. The DGMAN forecast for the next 48 hours, starting from Tuesday morning, is of clear skies over most of Oman with chances of clouds developments over Al Hajar mountains towards afternoon and chances of advection of medium to high clouds towards Arabian sea coast. The sea in Oman is expected to be rough along Arabian sea coasts with maximum wave height of 3.0 metres and slight to moderate along the rest of Oman coasts with maximum wave height of 1.5 metre. The weather will remain partly cloudy over Central Region, south- east and north-east areas with chances of rain and occasionally thundershowers. The Met office has urged fishermen and sea-farers to avoid going to the sea although the deep depression, which is expected to continue moving towards the Sultanate's coast on the Arabian Sea within the next two days, is expected to gradually weaken when it arrives near the Sultanate's coasts on Wednesday or Thursday.
