Kuwait Diving Team announced on Monday completing the establishment of a man-made lake for birds in the Judailiyat shore.
Establishing the makeshift lake in such a vital spot will have positive effects on increasing the number of living creatures in the area, Head of the team Waleed Al-Fadhil told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
The project will help in the growth of a sufficient number of bushes and plants, while also providing a habitat for over 15 species of birds, he said, adding that this step is part of the team's efforts to protect the marine environment.
Al-Judailiyat is located south of Kuwait Bay and its sea waters are the main place for fish and other marine creatures to lay their eggs, said Al-Fadhil. Moreover, he noted that the area's shores are an international crossing for over 300 birds migrating from north Europe to Africa.
Al-Fadhil hailed the efforts of the Cabinet, the Ministry of Public Works and volunteers in providing aid to complete this prominent environmental project. He also thanked The Ministry of Interior for prohibiting the hunting of migrating birds and other birds nesting in the area.
