The Khalifa University of Science and Technology, a research university dedicated to the advancement of learning through teaching and research and to the discovery and application of knowledge, today announced it will showcase some of its key water and energy-related research projects at the upcoming Water, Energy and Environment Technology Exhibition, (WETEX) 2017.

WETEX 2017 will take place from 23rd to 25th October at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center.

The Khalifa University of Science and Technology stand will showcase a number of water and energy-related research projects.

They include projects to reduce the cost and improve the efficiency of photovoltaic cells, solar-powered atmospheric water collection, low-cost solar humidification-dehumidification (HDH) desalination, a novel system for air quality monitoring in the UAE using advanced satellite and modeling techniques, optimization of hybrid refinery wastewater treatment processes, novel materials for the capture of carbon dioxide for use in enhanced oil recovery, thermal energy storage solutions to ensure constant power supply from renewable resources, and water production from humidity using smart materials.

Faculty and students working on these projects will be present to explain their intended impacts on the water and energy sectors. The university’s participation in WETEX 2017 aims to generate collaboration with stakeholders including government bodies, and industry partners.

Dr. Arif Al Hammadi, Interim Executive Vice President of Khalifa University of Science and Technology, said: "Our university has immense research and innovation strengths that can help develop new technologies and contribute to the UAE’s strategic requirements in water and energy. The projects we are showcasing at WETEX 2017 demonstrate not only our capabilities in clean energy, water and environmental technologies, but also our research collaborations, which continue to increase."

Khalifa University of Science and Technology recently won three honors in the national organisations category of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award 2017. Two projects jointly won first place, while another one received third place in the awards that aim to find and support innovative solutions to water shortage and scarcity worldwide.
