The Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Jordan (UJ) collected the first production of natural ornamental flowers (cut-flowers) grown on campus. Ornamental plants are considered of the most beautiful natural elements of interior decoration in offices, halls and homes to bring joy and pleasure to the human psyche and ease the stress everyday life. The university administration and its institutions uses quantities of cut- flowers and ornamental plants when organizing forums, conferences and national events, which called for the university president, Prof. Ekhleif Tarawneh to direct the Faculty to grow and produce cut-flowers in order to meet the needs of the university to cut costs. According to the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Aqel Mansour, a greenhouse was set up on campus to grow cut-flowers; grown types include Roses, Lilies, Asters, Monstera Deliciosa and others. The Faculty now sells inexpensive flowers bouquets with plans to set up three Greenhouses at the Agricultural Research Station, East Jordan Valley, to increase cut-flowers production and sell the excess to the University staff at preferential prices. Aqel also pointed to the contribution of the students of the Landscaping and Floriculture Program and their instructors. In turn, Eng. Faten Bani Mustafa explained the transplant process, stressing that it barely cost anything financially. Source: University of Jordan
