Shanghai - WAM

Bee'ah, the Middle East's leading and award winning integrated environmental and waste management company, is gearing up to host the biggest yet Green Middle East Exhibition and Forum from 28th-30th October at the Expo Centre, Sharjah. With a rapidly growing population, a thriving tourism industry and the ongoing development of the region's construction and energy industries, the Middle East faces a number of challenges, not least of which is the increase in waste. In fact, the GCC countries rank among the top 10 worldwide in terms of per capita solid waste generation. The third edition of Green Middle East will be held in Sharjah and aims to be a platform for international manufacturers of environment technology, government representatives, academics and industry experts to discuss ways to incorporate the latest innovations and developments into the operations of their business for a more sustainable future. Delegates will enjoy a conference agenda that features keynote speakers such as Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water, Dr. Mohammad Al Madfaei, Executive Director of Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, Kalle Hashmi, Senior Programme Officer, IRENA, and H.R.H. Princess Basma bint Ali of Jordan, who will give the keynote speech on day one of the conference. A broad range of topics will be touched upon, including how to implement innovative policies to effectively regulate waste management, the major challenges and opportunities of the industry across the Middle East and reducing pollution to create greener, more sustainable cities. "Awareness and collaboration are the foundations of a more sustainable future. This year's Green Middle East event gathers together a truly dynamic and diverse range of speakers for an exciting two days of discussions, debate and insight. As the Emirate of Sharjah continues to work towards its goal of achieving zero waste to landfill by 2015, the ability of sharing information and best practices with our colleagues from around the world is invaluable," said Khaled Al Huraimel, CEO, BEE'AH. In 2012, Green Middle East attracted 80 exhibitors and 3,575 trade visitors. According to Sharjah Expo, this year will be the biggest and best Green Middle East with more than 100 exhibitors already signed up and more than 10,000 trade visitors expected. The event will also feature the Green Middle East Awards for Environmental Excellence which recognise individuals and organisations who demonstrate sustainability and environmental leadership as well as adoption best practices within both, the private and public sectors. The Emirate of Sharjah is focussing heavily on recycling as it aims to achieve zero waste to landfill by 2015, in line with the vision of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for Sharjah to be the leading environmental city in the Middle East. By achieving this goal, Sharjah will be the first Arab city to divert 100% of its waste from landfill. Bee'ah aims to fulfil that goal in an effort to contribute towards Sharjah being recognised as the Environmental Capital of the Middle East.
