Park Inn by Radisson Muscat has been named Carlson Rezidor's "Leading Hotel in Responsible Business" for its efforts in energy consumption and other related initiatives. The award, accepted by Mr. Rabih Zein, general manager of the hotel, was given by Mr. Kurt Ritter, president and CEO of the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group. Mr. Zein said: "The cooperation of staff and guests are the main reasons we achieved this kind of appreciation." Responsible business is defined as taking responsibility for the environment and local community, and has been an important part of Rezidor's broader commitment to sustainable development since its first environmental policy in 1989. In 2001, this commitment was fortified and placed within the scope of Carlson Rezidor's award-winning Responsible Business programme. The three pillars of the Responsible Business programme are: taking responsibility for the health and safety of employees and customers; respecting social and ethical issues in the company, as well as in the community; and reducing the company's negative impact on the environment. The hotel was recognised for this award in part because of its continuous reduction of the hotel's energy consumption in 2009 and 2010. The hotel also engaged in responsible activities such as Earth hour, beach cleaning, blood donation and the Box Appeal campaign. This campaign, formerly known as the Shoe Box Appeal, has been re-branded for 2011 as the charity campaign aims to help more people than ever before. The initiative - which took place between the 15th of August and the 15th of September last year - is run by Radisson Blu and Park Inn by Radisson Hotels in the Middle East. Held in conjunction with the Red Crescent, the campaign aims to provide labourers across the UAE with essential everyday necessities. The hotel Muscat is also Green Key and Green Globe certified. To win the award, hotels must actively preserve local values and conduct themselves transparently and responsibly. The Rezidor Hotel Group has long believed in this philosophy - a fact established by its newly-acquired, 'Green Key' international certification.
