Manama - Arab Today

For the first time ever in the history of Bahrain motorsport, an international pro drifting event will be taking place in Sakhir.
Happening Thursday and Friday at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), drifters from all corners of the globe will be descending upon “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East” to put on a spectacular show for fans.
Entitled “King of Desert”, this two-day drifting championship is a part of BIC’s Race Fever programme. Race Fever is a month-long series of exciting events organised by BIC as part of the lead-up to the 2017 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. The highly anticipated race weekend is scheduled to take place on April 14-16 at BIC.
“King of Desert” will be held from BIC’s Michael Schumacher Turn (Turn One) to Turn Three.
Action begins on Thursday with Free Practice from 3pm to 9pm. Then on Friday, following another Free Practice between 2.30pm and 3.30pm, Qualifications will take place from 4pm to 6pm. A Top 32 Final will then be held from 7pm to 10pm.
Race Fever kicked off on Monday night with a fantastic live performance by Bryan Adams, which attracted thousands of fans, and continues this week with the “King of Desert”.
The Bahrain event is part of a “King of Desert” regional calendar in which professional drifting teams from around the world, including over 20 from the Gulf alone, are contesting. Other stops in the GCC are in Muscat and Abu Dhabi, with Bahrain being the final event.
This championship, known on the global scale as “Drift King of Nations Pro Series”, also holds events in Europe, South America, South Africa, Australia and Asia.
“Drift King of Nations” delivers an exclusive experience, combining the atmosphere of professional racing and the excitement of a real show. Combine the noise, smell, smoke and action, it makes for a perfect recipe of thrilling entertainment.
This combination brings the passion and gritty edge of drifting to life and creates a platform from which the fans can fully immerse themselves into the sport.
“Drift King of Nations Pro Series” is recognised as one of the world’s leading professional drifting championships. It boasts some of the youngest yet most talented rosters of drivers.
Drifting is the world’s fastest growing motorsport. Born in the Japanese mountains and established as a sport by Keiichi Tsuchiya in the 1980s, it has since then evolved into a worldwide competitive sport that challenges each driver’s ability and vehicle control.
Also during the “King of Desert” event, Race Fever Game Zone will be welcoming fans and giving them a fun interactive experience.
Race Fever then continues later this month with a Neon Run on March 24 and Formula 2 (newly rebranded from GP2 Series) Testing on March 30 and 31. Race Fever Game Zone will also be open on those days.
