Rabat - Arab Today

King Mohammed VI asked Spain’s Felipe VI for support in hosting the world cup together.  They are competing against the United States, Canada and Mexico for the Candidacy.

The two kings will integrate Portugal to their candidacy proposal. According to the Spanish sports news outlet, AS, under the principle of “continental rotation” hosting the World Cup in America would provide more options, however, AS states that Donald Trump’s immigration policy can create obstacles.

FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, supports the Kings proposal. Infantino supports a world cup by horse back between African And Europe, between Christians and Muslims.

According AS, Infantino believes that the 2026 World Cup would be an opportunity to demonstrate that futbol (soccer) can be used to overcome differences and in this way also gain FIFA a nomination for a Nobel Peace Prize. Infantino added that having Morocco, Spain and Portugal host the 2026 World cup could help clear FIFA’s current image of being a corrupted organization.

Felipe VI has agreed to join forces with Morocco and Portugal to organize and host the World cup. According to AS, this is only if the candidacy has a chance at winning. All parties involved are currently waiting for the results of Trump’s immigration policy to determine and answer. FIFA will not announce the host country until May 2020.

The World Cup 2026 will be the first to have 48 countries participating. According to AS, there will be 16 groups competing in three different categories. Tied games will not be allowed in the first phase of the tournament. In the case of a tie, the winner will be decided after evaluating the number of penalties they gained.

The upcoming World Cups are being held in Russia for 2018, and in Qatar for 2022.
