The hospital treating China's cancer-stricken Nobel laureate Liu Xiaobo said Wednesday his family had refused to have him put on artificial ventilation after he suffered respiratory failure.
The 61-year-old pro-democracy activist requires "mechanical ventilation to maintain life" but his family has "refused the tracheal intubation", the hospital said in a statement on its website.
