Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Salah Hilal said the ministry has started marketing the second one-million feddans as part of a national larger scheme to reclaim a total of four million feddans of land announced by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
Interviewed by the Egyptian TV on Monday, the minister said investment contracts to reclaim a million feddan will be signed later in the day.
He pointed out that investors have presented their feasibility studies on the areas of lands they are willing to reclaim.
The minister also said he met with an Egyptian-UAE company which had applied for the reclamation of 220 feddans in west of Kum Umbu Plain, Aswan.
Responding to a question on the types of crops that will be cultivated by the investors, Hilal said the ministry has set a key condition for investors not to cultivate crops which need large amounts of water as they will mainly depend on underground water.
