Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hossam Moghazi said as many as 54 fishing cages have been removed from the River Nile banks in Gharbiya governorate as part of the ministry's campaign to protect and develop the Nile course in cooperation with the water police.

In statements on Saturday, Moghazi said all necessary measures will be taken to prevent the use of such fishing cages as they are illegal.

He said such cages are impeding the water course of the River Nile and cause pollution.

A hotline, 15116, has been announced by the ministry to receive complains on any transgressions on the Nile.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in the presence of Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and the cabinet signed a document on the protection of the Nile course. Azhar Imam Ahmed El Tayyed also signed the document that is expected to be signed by more than 50 million Egyptians.
