Wadid Erian, a senior adviser to the Arab League
Amman - Arab Today

Climate change is shrinking green lands in the Arab nation by 1,1% annually, Wadid Erian, a senior adviser to the Arab League (AL) for assessing disasters and climate change risks, asserted on Tuesday.

He was speaking at a workshop in Amman on food security and nutrition.

Erian said that the food security issue is one of the most important challenges facing Arab countries.

The significant decrease in green areas in the Arab nation consequently led to more desertification and decline in biodiversity.

He pointed to the large decline in agricultural products, especially cereals in the Arab nation.

He called on developing a regional and national program to achieve Arab food security.

The program would help the public and private sectors and Arab businessmen invest in joint Arab agricultural projects in eligible countries.

These countries should provide facilities, privileges and guarantees that encourage Arab investors to pump more investments in the field of food security, he underlined.
