Tourism Minister Khaled Ramy on Monday said that setting minimum prices for hotel rooms aims to raise the quality of services provided to tourists and eliminate the phenomenon of 'burning prices', which has spread to many hotel facilities during the recent period.
During a meeting with tourism sector's investors, the minister said the decision came at a request of the private tourism sector to achieve the common interest.
Respecting market mechanism of supply and demand will be taken into account before implementing the decision and a time limit will be given to all establishments to meet their contractual obligations, the minister stressed.
The Tourism Ministry is keen to maintain the image of the Egyptian tourist destination abroad, with no damage to the interests of investors, he said.
The ministry will launch a new promotional campaign during 2015 in 27 tourist markets around the world by an international public relations company, he added.
